However, I would most probably buy a non-Canon brand for off-camera flash; as long as they can be triggered remotely they're good to go. If it's a real Canon Speedlite, it should work with any Canon digital camera as it's designed to, no questions asked.
I wouldn't mount a non-Canon flash on any of my Canon cameras. Using a defective generic flash that causes my camera to malfunction is most likely to void my warranty claim. Note that Canon bears no responsibility if Flash XYZ doesn't work on your 60D or worse, causes problems with your camera's electronics.
